TecPlata first in Argentina to receive Neo-panamax ships

International Container Terminal Services, Inc’s (ICTSI) TecPlata has received certification as the first terminal in the country capable of handling Neo-panamax container vessels.

From now on, shipping lines will be able to serve Argentine foreign trade with giant 366-metre-long and 51-metre-wide vessels, directly transporting Argentina’s exports to the world’s main markets.

 “The certification of these docking manoeuvres highlights TecPlata’s infrastructure and technical capabilities, being the only dock in Buenos Aires designed to accommodate upcoming improvements in the depth of the navigable waterway…With this milestone, TecPlata has restored Argentina’s rightful position as a leader in international trade,” said Juan Pablo Trujillo, TecPlata Chief Executive Officer.

With the certification for Neo-Panamax docking maneuvers, TecPlata further solidifies its commitment to boosting the national and regional economy by facilitating access to global markets and offering the most attractive value proposition in Argentina’s port sector, said TecPlata.

Built with an investment of $450 million, TecPlata is Argentina’s most modern container terminal with an initial capacity of 450,000 teu and capable of being extended of up to 1 million teu in the second phase.
